Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Chief Development Officer plays a pivotal role in leading fundraising efforts and implementing extensive strategies for revenue generation, including the management of donor relationships. This position is essential for nurturing connections with donors, enhancing financial growth, and amplifying the chapter's impact and visibility within the community.

The AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter is dedicated to fostering a community where every child and youth can thrive, learn, and grow. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of children and youth by linking them to opportunities and resources that foster a sense of belonging and help them realize their full potential.

With over 30 years of experience as a community advocate for vulnerable youth, we firmly believe that every child deserves access to the resources necessary for health, happiness, and personal development, promoting self-respect, confidence, and hope.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Major Gifts

  • Design and implement annual and multi-year fundraising strategies in collaboration with the team.
  • Monitor and ensure that fundraising objectives, timelines, and critical milestones are achieved.
  • Develop a strategy for donor acquisition, including identification, engagement, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Enhance the current annual giving program with a focus on donor retention and growth.
  • Oversee and improve stewardship and recognition initiatives to strengthen donor relationships.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of mid-level and major donors.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create targeted communications and marketing materials to engage donors.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, fiscal, and legal standards in all fundraising activities.
  • Maintain relationships with philanthropy professionals to stay informed about trends and best practices.

Leadership and Strategy

  • Supervise a fundraising team, providing coaching and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Offer strategic advice for events, maximizing fundraising opportunities and aligning with overall strategies.
  • Contribute to the Senior Leadership team to advance the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Support the Executive Director in enhancing Board member engagement in fundraising activities.
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization by developing strategies to communicate the importance of fundraising.
  • Work with internal teams to integrate EDI values into fundraising strategies.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Manage the fundraising department budget and report on progress towards key performance indicators.
  • Develop a philanthropy scorecard for quarterly reporting to leadership and the board.
  • Assist in tracking ROI for fundraising events and campaigns to optimize future efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a relevant field. CFRE designation is a plus.
  • Fundraising Experience: At least five years in a fundraising role with a proven record of successful program execution.
  • Leadership Skills: Exceptional leadership abilities with a focus on strategic planning and team inspiration.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with a donor-centered approach.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Networking Skills: Proficient in building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Commitment to EDI: Proven cultural competency and advocacy for social justice causes.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong prioritization and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Technological Proficiency: Advanced skills in Office 365 and donor database systems.
  • Fundraising Trends: Knowledge of current trends in the fundraising sector.
  • Confidence and Persistence: Demonstrated confidence and focus in achieving organizational goals.
