Job Overview

AECOM is seeking a skilled Municipal Engineer to join our Water group. This position offers the flexibility to work from various offices within the Greater Toronto Area.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding and extensive experience in civil engineering, civil technology, and construction management principles, particularly in the realm of municipal infrastructure design and construction. Successful collaboration within a team environment and effective communication with project team members and clients are essential. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive attitude, strong motivation, and a passion for delivering results. The role primarily focuses on supporting the provision of infrastructure services in the municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a working knowledge of water, wastewater, and drainage conveyance systems in a municipal context.
  • Design civil systems related to municipal water and/or wastewater and drainage facilities.
  • Conduct constructability reviews and construction inspections.
  • Oversee construction contract administration.
  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports.
  • Generate construction cost estimates.
  • Draft project specifications and contract documents.
  • Engage in client communication and management, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, and coordination with regulatory bodies; manage project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, design, construction inspection, or contract administration.
  • Experience with municipal water, wastewater, and/or stormwater conveyance and pumping infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite.
  • Registered as a P.Eng in Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Comfortable in a multi-disciplinary work environment.
  • Project management training and experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in proposal writing and job scoping is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of systems related to lift stations, pump stations, and mechanical equipment for water and wastewater utilities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with trenchless technologies is an asset.
