**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Executive Advisor in the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office of the Lands Operations division, the Priority Issues Coordinator (PIC) manages critical and emerging issues from a strategic communication and issues management perspective. The PIC is the primary link to emerging issues and activities in the division and ensures situational awareness and information sharing to staff within. This key position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to assess issues, determine their nature and priority, research and coordinate supporting information, and takes action to develop appropriate responses.

This position also researches and conducts environmental scanning of potential issues, provides analysis, and ongoing issues management support to ensure the effective delivery of programs and frameworks that fall within the department's mandate. This requires the individual to initiate and coordinate responses, and provide value-added information and recommendations for consideration, and strategic messaging in a timely manner.

This position is also responsible for the strategic review of briefings and other materials, including Cabinet and information packages.

As a Priority Issues Coordinator, you will:

- Manage information flow and drive continuous improvement of workflow processes with a quality assurance function ensuring the division provides high quality deliverables that are professional, clear, and succinct in support of the Ministry’s business plan and mandate.
- Remain current and informed on Ministry issues, proactively recommend, and provide an evaluation of issues and potential strategies to resolve issues.
- Coordinate and track major divisional initiatives to ensure timely progress; follow up on action items identified by the Executive Advisor and ADM. Establish familiarity with the decision-making process and regularly communicate relevant deadlines and requirements to the division.A strong understanding of communications, policy and departmental organization issues is required as well as Government of Alberta strategic direction.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- A University degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Two (2) years of directly related experience.Equivalencies will be considered: Directly related education or experience considered based on:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.**Assets**:

- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of technology and computer skills, including the use of the ARTS, SharePoint, and Excel.
- Political acumen and general awareness of stakeholder perspectives.
- Experience with project management and change management practices.
- Experience in issues management and/or working in an advisory role.
- Experience with research and analysis
- Sound knowledge and understanding of:

- Proper English grammar and usage, as well as appropriate Canadian Press Style
