**Role Responsibilities**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Priority Issues Coordinator in the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas

Reporting to the Policy and Executive Advisor of the Policy Division, the Priority Issues Coordinator (PIC) works directly with the Branch Leadership Team to manage critical and emerging issues from a strategic communication and business management perspective. The incumbent will have regular and on-going contact with various groups within the Ministry as well as cross-ministry groups and external partners. In this role, you will primarily work in an office setting.

In this exciting, fast-paced position, you will play a critical role in establishing, implementing, integrating, and monitoring effective business and communication processes. You will work under high-pressure situations to provide timely and accurate advice on current and emerging issues and ensure information is disseminated to the affected program areas in an efficient and effective manner.

You will act as the primary branch contact for the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office, and other divisional branches. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to assess issues, determine nature and priority, research, and coordinate supporting information and take appropriate action to contribute to the success of the department. A strong understanding of communications, policy and departmental organization issues is required.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- A completed university degree in Political Science, Communications, Environmental Studies/Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in issues management.

**Equivalencies considered**:

- Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of directly related experience
- Diploma in a related field, plus 4 years directly related experience.

- Creativity and in-depth research, writing and editing skills.
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy and timeliness of issue responses.

**- Sound knowledge and understanding of**:

- Proper English grammar and usage, as well as appropriate Canadian Press Style guide rules, and plain language GoA writing style.
- GoA and ministry internal administrative policies, processes and practices.
- The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation.
- Planning processes in resource management (e.g. Cumulative Effects Management Strategies) and Integrated Resource Management System.
- Environmental issues and landscapes in Alberta.
- Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification. Refer to**Notes**:
