**Position Title**
- Applied Research Chair, Data-Driven Innovation (DDI)**Position Summary**
- Red Deer Polytechnic seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the **Data-Driven Innovation (**DDI**) Chair**, supported by NSERC Mobilize funding. This role will drive interdisciplinary applied research (AR) and foster digital transformation across RDP’s research pillars, advancing innovation and regional prosperity in Central Alberta and beyond.
- The DDI Chair will lead the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies, including data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML), to deliver economic, social, environmental, and healthcare benefits. By developing collaborative partnerships with industry, community, and academic stakeholders, the Chair will ensure RDP remains at the forefront of the digital transformation era.

The DDI Chair is responsible for building a robust applied research portfolio that aligns with institutional priorities and regional needs, growing RDP’s capacity in key sectors, and ensuring the financial sustainability of research initiatives through effective revenue management and client relationship strategies. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, leveraging innovative thinking and a proactive approach to identify and capitalize on opportunities that generate both research impact and revenue growth.**Position Responsibilities**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Develop and lead interdisciplinary AR teams to create impactful, data-driven solutions.
- Build and manage collaborations with industry, community, post-secondary, and public sector partners.
- Advance AI, ML, and data analytics adoption across AR pillars.
- Oversee AR projects delivering measurable regional benefits, including innovation, productivity, and environmental sustainability.
- Foster equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within AR environments.
- Supervise and mentor highly qualified personnel (HQP), including student research assistants.
- Drive outreach, knowledge mobilization, and engagement through industry events and external presentations.
- Manage program resources, including recruitment, infrastructure, and project execution.
- Drive the growth and impact of applied research in Data Driven Innovation, setting clear objectives for expanding RDP’s role in advancing technology, social innovation, or health outcomes.
- Lead the dissemination of research findings through academic publications, technical reports, presentations, and outreach activities, ensuring that knowledge is transferred effectively to industry, government, and community audiences. Lead writer of scientific manuscripts, industry reporting and presentation of research results at workshops and conferences.**Resources Available**:

**Required Qualifications**
- Proven expertise in data-driven innovation, data analytics, machine learning, or related fields, at least 10 years experience in similar role
- Strong leadership and project management skills with experience in planning, guiding and supporting interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and preparing a variety of memos, letters, and technical reports and specifications that are clear and concise
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding and build partnerships.
- Proficiency in data analytics, AI, ML, and related tools (e.g., Python, R, Tableau, TensorFlow). Familiarity with cybersecurity and data management best practices.**Preferred Qualifications**
- PhD is preferred or equivalency in experience.
