What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:

  • apply industry best practices to develop, improve, modify, evaluate and validate training products and programs for a variety of settings
  • conduct needs analysis, and lead and participate in working groups
  • research and evaluate training products; deliver training programs
  • serve as a responder in the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) and/or the Ministry Emergency Operations Centre (MEOC) or on field deployment, as required
How do I qualify?Mandatory

  • You may also be required to travel and work irregular/extended hours particularly in emergency situations or for training purposes.
  • You are required to have a valid driver's license in order to access emergency, exercise and training sites not accessible by public transportation.
  • This position requires provincial security clearance and background check and may require federal security clearance. Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform to perform some duties, and may be required to wear and use protective equipment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Technical expertise:

  • You have demonstrated knowledge of adult education theory, principles and practices (e.g. learning needs assessment, program design, development strategies/methods, testing measurement and evaluation practices).
  • You have the proven ability to develop, improve, modify, evaluate, and validate training products and programs for a variety of settings (i.e., classroom, distance learning) using current industry best practices.
  • You have knowledge of emergency management in Ontario as well as roles and responsibilities of external organizations (such as NGO, private industry, fire service, police services, Emergency Medical Services).
Communication and interpersonal skills:

  • You have strong oral and written communication skills to develop and prepare informational materials for ministry and external contacts such as reports, recommendations, correspondence, manuals and guidelines.
  • You have consulting and influencing skills to work with emergency management stakeholders and to elicit support from subject matter experts.
  • You are able to effectively liaise and build on-going relationships with stakeholders and clients.
  • You have demonstrated negotiation skills to facilitate consultations and working group processes with differing views.
Analytical and planning skills:

  • You can identify/design/develop appropriate training and development resources or strategies.
  • You are able to select and apply appropriate techniques and procedures for information collection and analysis.
  • You have experience conducting research and evaluation projects.
  • You have knowledge of planning and project management methodologies to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Technology proficiency:

  • You are proficient with common office productivity software and have demonstrated knowledge of software and other on-line tools to produce training courses.
  • You have advanced skills with audio visual and communication technology.
  • You are proficient with e-learning development software and learning management systems.
