Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Personal Training Manager is responsible for maintaining the excellence of the Equinox experience through effective education, innovative programming, and comprehensive trainer development. This role inspires both members and staff to embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Working closely with the Personal Training Manager, the Personal Training Manager fosters a collaborative and dynamic environment, promotes professional growth for individuals and teams, upholds brand standards, and influences key business metrics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Business Operations:

Ensure the delivery of high-quality service through both complimentary and paid Personal Training offerings that encourage ongoing engagement.


• Facilitate complimentary Personal Training sessions and prepare member results reviews.


• Collaborate with Membership Advisors to clarify the value of Personal Training services.


• Work alongside Membership Advisors for Personal Training sales transitions.


• Hold the team accountable for delivering branded, quality interactions with members during Fitness Specialist hours and special events.


• Assist the Personal Training Manager with pipeline management as needed.

Team Culture Leadership:


• Collaborate with all club departments to achieve interdepartmental synergy.


• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of trainers.


• Establish and uphold service standards for trainers in their interactions with members and staff.


• Encourage team commitment to ongoing educational opportunities to ensure high standards and quality programming delivery.


• Create and present relevant development topics in the monthly Personal Training department meetings.

Staff Development:

Guide employees through the tier system via education and promotion processes.


• Enhance skills in fitness assessments, complimentary Personal Training sessions, and results review discussions through coaching and feedback.


• Proficient in Equifit/CPT closing using effective sales techniques.


• Provide in-club education to meet the developmental needs of the training team in alignment with organizational direction.


• Lead the quality and developmental aspects of new hire onboarding.


• Conduct meetings with trainers to support program and session delivery.


• Ensure timely promotions within the trainer tier system.


• Identify and collaborate on key talent to advance trainer careers.


• Host weekly team meetings to discuss upcoming reviews, assessments, education, and team morale.


• Support the development process for Tier X candidates.

Maintain Personal Training Standards:

Ensure high-quality Personal Training service delivery to enhance member participation, reduce client attrition, and ensure compliance with programming and results review preparation.


• Conduct regular program design meetings with each team member to ensure adherence to program delivery standards.


• Perform audits on both complimentary and paid services and provide constructive feedback.


• Ensure proficiency in the use and compliance of all member and employee-facing digital tools.


• Maintain the presentation and functionality of all equipment in the assessment room.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


• Degree in Exercise Science or Sports Management preferred. Current national certification, CPR/AED, First Aid.


• Exceptional instructional abilities with the capacity to lead a curriculum and develop learning strategies.
