Director, Conflict Management Office

This senior leadership position provides strategic direction and expertise to the University of Waterloo community in managing conflicts and complaints. The Director, Conflict Management Office is accountable to the Associate Provost, Campus Support and Accessibility and is responsible for leading the Conflict Management Office (CMO) in providing conflict management services to the campus community.

The Director leads the development, management, and rationalization of the CMO and its programs and functions, ensuring the operation of the unit meets and follows all critical elements within the conflict and complaint management process. This includes adhering to the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant statutory obligations.

The CMO is the University's centralized office for receiving concerns and managing all complaints and investigations related to harassment, discrimination, and related statutory obligations. The Director offers subject matter expertise and guidance to the University on its obligations and responsibilities in appropriately managing conflicts and complaints.

The Director provides leadership to the University by offering input into the University's strategic plan, strategic initiatives, and other cross-campus functions as it relates to managing conflict and complaints. They also lead the development of policies and procedures related to conflict management and prevention.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a related field, such as Law, Psychology, Sociology, or Peace and Conflict Studies. They will also have experience in conflict resolution, mediation, and investigation, as well as expertise in the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The Director will be responsible for managing a team of professionals who provide conflict management services to the campus community. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing training programs for faculty, staff, and students on conflict management and prevention.
