Payroll and Benefits Coordinator

Hemlock Printers Ltd. is a leading print communications company with operations in North America. We are seeking an experienced Payroll and Benefits Coordinator to join our team.
About the Role
This permanent, full-time position is responsible for administering payroll and benefits plans for all employees across the Hemlock Group of companies. You will work closely with the Finance and Human Resources teams to ensure seamless execution of these critical functions.
Main Responsibilities
- Administer all aspects of Canadian and US payroll reporting
- Prepare, verify, and process employee payroll-related payments, including regular pay, benefit payments, and special payments such as bonuses and vacation pay
- Prepare payroll-related filings and supporting documentation, such as year-end tax statements and Records of Employment
- Compile, review, and monitor statistical reports related to pay and benefits accounts
- Provide payroll reports, overtime reports, time off reports, and staff counts
- Maintain accurate time-off records
- Submit payroll taxes
- Administer aspects of benefit programs, including maintenance and reconciliation of benefit plans and submission of premiums
- Communicate changes and updates to employees regarding their benefits
- Manage RRSP/401k accounts and submit funds
- Administer other programs, such as Compass Card (TOPS program) reimbursements
- Review and update employee records, including wage changes, employee transfer requests, benefit enrollments, and contact information
- Support HR department with file management related to performance reviews, disciplinary actions, terminations, and hiring new staff
Requirements
- Minimum two years' experience in accounting or one year's full-cycle payroll experience preferred
- Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification and/or American Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) an asset
- Ability to understand and apply government regulations and company policies affecting employment standards and benefits
- Intermediate Excel skills, including experience with Pivot tables
- Collaborative, results-oriented individual with excellent numerical ability and attention to detail
- Strong time management skills with the ability to perform work under tight deadlines
- Ability to multitask and efficiently move between different responsibilities
