Job Summary

This role performs a variety of payroll duties including electronic file transmission of data, calculating and preparing off-cycle cheques, maintaining operating reconciliations, and performing related clerical duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electronic data transfer of time administration system timesheets to Peoplesoft.
  • Calculates and prepares off-cycle cheques for adjustments such as vacation, terminations, retirements and leaves of absence as per departmental procedures.
  • Maintains Payroll data such as direct deposit information, voluntary deductions, personal information, and statutory deductions.
  • Reviews time records for accuracy in coding and completeness.
  • Provides information to staff and external agencies regarding contract provisions on payroll matters such as scheduling, vacation accumulation, sick time and pay policies.
  • Reviews and verifies accuracy of exception reports.
  • Calculates Garnishee and Court Order payments based on regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews payroll remittance reports.
  • Assists with benefit administration.
  • Prepares and creates a variety of reports.
  • Ensures that assigned employee payroll information is securely maintained, recorded and filed in an accurate and timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized payroll course and three years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
