Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Genetics Technologist I to join our team at U of A Hospital. As a key member of our Genetics and Genomics North unit, you will play a critical role in performing and interpreting routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and interpret testing for genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.
  • Participate in results entry into the laboratory information system (LIS), report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, lab safety procedures, literature review, test method evaluation, and document writing.
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies, train students and fellows/residents, participate in accreditation activities, and pre-analytical testing processes including accessioning.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics.
  • Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Successful completion of the Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program through the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences (Toronto, Ontario) OR the Clinical Genetics Technology Post Diploma Program at the BC Institute of Technology (Burnaby, BC) OR equivalent.
  • Work experience in a clinical Cytogenetics and/or clinical Molecular Genetics laboratory required; current clinical laboratory experience and knowledge in these techniques is preferred.
