Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll and Benefits Administrator to join our team at Atlantic Packaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all benefits, including group insurance, optional life insurance, pension, and GRSP contributions and coverage, are accurate and up-to-date for each employee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payrolls as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate payment of employees.
  • Issue illness advisory forms to payroll administrators, advising of absences over 7 days, to facilitate the issuance of ROEs to employees.
  • Check and process weekly indemnity, complete the employer's portion, and submit to the insurance carrier for payment.
  • Verify daily email of W.I payments for accuracy and follow up on any discrepancies in claims by contacting the insurance carrier and/or employees.
  • Inform the insurance company and file copies of claims, cheques, and other correspondence in employees' benefit files once employees have returned to work.
  • Collaborate with the WSIB coordinator, ERC, and plant to establish modified work for returning disability claimants if necessary.
  • Issue benefits termination letters to employees who have been absent due to illness or injury, in accordance with union contracts and/or company policy, four weeks prior to the effective date.
  • Set up and maintain benefit coverage in the appropriate division, update changes, and remove terminated employees.
  • Update the Groupnet system with applicable changes.
  • Prepare monthly premium statements and requisition cheques after benefit printouts have been balanced.
  • Update the insurance bank account reconciliation spreadsheet.
  • Issue internet access information to new employees once coverage is in force.
  • Reconcile paid insurance premiums with amounts showing in the payroll register, providing a breakdown of differences for journal entries.
  • Import hours from the report writer to a spreadsheet to calculate the monthly pension/GRSP contributions for all eligible employees, add or subtract hours depending on entitlement and maximums established in union contracts, and requisition a cheque.
  • Reconcile paid RSP contributions with amounts showing in the payroll register, providing a breakdown of differences for journal entries.
  • Process pension/RSP information for retiring and terminating employees and forward to providers, updating the Sun Life portal with status changes once final contributions have been uploaded.
  • Upload taxable benefit arrears.
  • Notify providers and payroll administrators of the date and taxable benefit amounts when employees become vested.
  • Respond to inquiries and correspondence in a prompt and accurate manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date scanning, filing, and employee files.
  • Train and assist payroll administrators as required.
  • Import, balance, and distribute cost reports weekly as needed.
