Job Title: Director, Business Development

Seaspan Shipyards is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Business Development to contribute to the growth of our business by identifying and developing new opportunities in target market segments. The successful candidate will lead the capture strategy and plans for these opportunities, working closely with the broader Seaspan team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Drive future growth for the company through disciplined but creative business development.
  2. Lead activities to find and develop opportunities with new and existing customers.
  3. Provide leadership to capture teams and proposal teams.
  4. Maintain key business development contacts with current and potential customers.
  5. Lead and drive opportunities through the Seaspan business development process and lifecycle.
  6. Develop and implement full capture strategies and plans for each approved opportunity.
  7. Build and lead capture teams and proposal teams as required.
  8. Interface with other departments and teams to achieve objectives aligned with overall Seaspan priorities.
  9. Provide leadership, creativity, and drive to find solutions that meet customer needs.
  10. Strong communication skills with customers, partners, suppliers, and within Seaspan.
Requirements:
  1. 7+ years of professional industry experience advancing complex new business development strategies and bid proposals in the shipbuilding industry or a complex defence, aerospace, or systems development, manufacturing, or construction industry.
  2. University degree in a relevant area preferred.
  3. Proven track record of identifying and closing on new business opportunities in government procurement markets.
  4. Experience leading and closing complex opportunities with contract values over $5M and ideally over $50M.
  5. Broad understanding of technical, programmatic, financial, and commercial aspects of complex deals.
  6. Experience with forming and maintaining strategic industry partnerships and supplier arrangements as part of a capture strategy.
  7. Multi-faceted leadership skills applicable to direct leadership roles and influential leadership roles.
  8. Ability to work in a highly flexible and fluid environment and maintain calm and rational thinking and reasoning at all times.
  9. Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and respond to stakeholder needs strategically and tactfully.
  10. Exceptional interpersonal skills, superior oral and written capabilities, including the ability to build professional relationships with government and industry partners.
  11. Skilled at advocacy, influence, and persuasion, with the ability to convince others to act on information or recommendations based on compelling logic or common best interests.
  12. Knowledge of complex government markets.
  13. Strong knowledge and expertise with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Excel).
  14. Self-starter with good organizational skills who can work both independently and as a member of a team.

The estimated salary for this position is $169,800 - $203,800. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors, including the successful candidate's skillset and experience, as well as position location and internal equity.
