Position Overview

The role of a Registered Nurse (RN) in Mental Health is pivotal in diagnosing and addressing human responses to both actual and potential health challenges. This position emphasizes the establishment of a purposeful therapeutic relationship between the nurse, the patient, and their family. As a key figure in care coordination, the professional nurse holds the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating, and assessing the patient's care requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment: Gather, prioritize, and synthesize comprehensive data relevant to the patient's health status. Engage with the patient, family, and other healthcare professionals to collect and analyze pertinent information systematically.
  • Diagnosis: Evaluate assessment data to establish nursing diagnoses. Interpret information to identify each patient's needs based on age, developmental stage, and cultural context.
  • Outcomes Identification: Determine expected outcomes tailored to the patient. Collaborate with the patient and family to set realistic and measurable goals based on nursing diagnoses and available resources.
  • Planning: Create a plan that outlines interventions aimed at achieving the expected outcomes. Develop an individualized care plan that considers patient characteristics and ensures continuity of care.
  • Implementation: Execute the established plan and interventions in a safe and timely manner. Utilize evidence-based practices specific to the patient's diagnoses.
  • Evaluation: Assess the patient's progress towards achieving the set outcomes. Involve the patient and family in the evaluation process and document any necessary revisions to the care plan.
  • Quality of Practice: Enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through participation in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Education: Pursue knowledge and skills that reflect current nursing practices and participate in relevant educational activities.
  • Professional Practice Evaluation: Regularly assess one’s own nursing practice against professional standards and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Collegiality: Foster the professional development of peers by sharing knowledge and providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside patients, families, and other professionals to enhance nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Ethics: Uphold ethical standards in nursing practice and advocate for patients' rights.
  • Research: Integrate research findings into practice to inform decision-making.
  • Resource Utilization: Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in the delivery of patient care.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership within the professional setting and promote a positive work environment.
  • Environmental Health: Maintain practices that promote environmental safety and health.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Vocational degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • New graduate hires must have completed clinical rotations in an acute care setting.
  • Internal clinic employees with relevant experience may be considered.
  • 0 to 2 years of RN experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a specialty area.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support certification required within a specified timeframe.
  • Additional certifications may be necessary based on specialty.

Physical Demands

This position may require medium work, including lifting weights up to 32 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently.
