Position Overview
The role of a Registered Nurse (RN) in Mental Health is centered around the assessment and management of patients' responses to various health challenges. This position emphasizes the establishment of a purposeful therapeutic relationship between the nurse, the patient, and their families. As a pivotal figure in the healthcare team, the RN is accountable for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of patient care needs in a specialized outpatient environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations by gathering and prioritizing relevant health data. This process involves collaboration with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to identify needs and patterns.
- Nursing Diagnosis: Analyze assessment data to formulate nursing diagnoses, ensuring that they reflect the current status of the patient while considering age, development, and cultural factors.
- Outcome Identification: Collaborate with patients and families to establish realistic and measurable expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses and available resources.
- Care Planning: Develop individualized care plans that prescribe interventions aimed at achieving expected outcomes, ensuring continuity of care and adherence to evidence-based practices.
- Implementation of Care: Execute the care plan in a safe and timely manner, utilizing evidence-based interventions and coordinating care as necessary.
- Evaluation: Assess the patient's progress towards outcomes, revising care plans as needed and involving patients and families in the evaluation process.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in activities aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, utilizing quality improvement data to inform practice.
- Professional Development: Pursue ongoing education and training to maintain competency in nursing practice and apply new knowledge to enhance patient care.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to foster positive outcomes and ensure comprehensive care.
- Ethical Practice: Uphold ethical standards in nursing practice, advocating for patients and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Research Integration: Utilize research findings to inform clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes.
- Resource Management: Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in the delivery of patient care, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently.
- Leadership: Provide leadership within the nursing practice setting, promoting a positive work environment and participating in shared decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Vocational degree from an accredited nursing program.
- 0 to 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- Experience in a mental health specialty is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
Physical Demands
This position requires medium work, including lifting weights up to 32 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently.
