The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is currently seeking applications for a full-time position based in La Ronge:

Prevention Coordinator

The Prevention Coordinator will play a vital role in executing child protection and family support programs. This position involves working collaboratively with parents and families to tackle issues that require intervention under the legal framework of the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act. The role necessitates thorough documentation of client interactions and decision-making processes, alongside conducting comprehensive risk evaluations. Additionally, the Prevention Coordinator will proactively engage with families and children to avert custody referrals and foster family cohesion. This position also includes the responsibility of budget development and oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and connect with relevant programs, support services, and agencies to address the needs of children in need of assistance. Collaborate with these entities to facilitate the delivery of necessary programs.
  • Ensure that services are customized to meet the specific needs of children and families within the LLRIB communities.
  • Design and implement initiatives focused on prevention, child protection, and family support.
  • Assist parents and families in resolving issues that may threaten children's safety or well-being.
  • Work closely with families to mitigate conditions that could endanger children's safety.
  • Provide guidance and resources to families to address challenges and establish a secure environment for children.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate client records, documenting all relevant evidence and case decisions in line with established protocols.
  • Ensure that all documentation is current and readily accessible for reference and reporting purposes.
  • Assess the level of risk to children's safety in child protection scenarios.
  • Complete written risk assessments for all child protection cases utilizing Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools.
  • Utilize these assessments to guide decisions and actions related to child protection.
  • Identify families and children at risk of custody intervention and take proactive measures.
  • Provide preventive support and resources to address issues before they necessitate legal custody actions.
  • Collaborate with families to maintain unity while ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
  • Supervise Prevention Workers.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma/Certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Child and Family Studies).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in child protection and family support services.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act and other pertinent legal mandates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various agencies and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
