The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is currently seeking applications for a full-time position based in La Ronge:

Prevention Coordinator

The Prevention Coordinator will play a crucial role in executing child welfare and family assistance programs, working closely with parents and families to tackle issues that require intervention under the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act. This position also demands thorough documentation of client interactions and decision-making processes, alongside conducting risk evaluations. Additionally, the Prevention Coordinator will actively support families and children, with the goal of preventing custody referrals and fostering family cohesion. This role includes responsibility for budget development and oversight of its execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and collaborate with relevant programs, support services, and agencies to fulfill the needs of children in distress. Partner with these organizations to facilitate the delivery of essential services to children.
  • Ensure that the services provided are customized to address the specific needs of children and families within the LLRIB communities.
  • Design and implement initiatives focused on prevention, child welfare, and family support.
  • Assist parents and families in resolving issues that may jeopardize children's safety or well-being.
  • Work in close partnership with families to mitigate conditions that may endanger children's safety.
  • Offer guidance, support, and resources to families to address challenges and establish a secure environment for children.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate client records, documenting all relevant information and case decisions in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Ensure that all documentation is current and readily accessible for reference and reporting purposes.
  • Assess the level of risk to children's safety in child welfare cases.
  • Complete written risk evaluations for all child welfare cases utilizing Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools.
  • Utilize these evaluations to guide decisions and actions regarding child welfare.
  • Identify families and children at risk of custody intervention and take proactive measures.
  • Provide preventive support and resources to address issues before they necessitate legal custody actions.
  • Collaborate with families to maintain family unity while ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
  • Supervise Prevention Workers.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma/Certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Child and Family Studies).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in child welfare and family support services.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act and other pertinent legal requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various agencies and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and documentation capabilities.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
