Job Summary

The AV Group NB is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Woodlands Director to lead the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on our Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality and cost-effective wood to our two NB Mills, while maintaining healthy wood inventories and ensuring compliance with safety stocks policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive woodlands budget that meets the company's financial goals in a challenging wood market.
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality.
  • Negotiate wood contracts with market participants and government entities to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Provide leadership to the Woodlands team and the company as a whole, promoting a culture of sustainability and safety.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and industry partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant sustainable certifications and credentials, such as FSC, PEFC, and SFI.
  • Represent the company in sustainability forums and conferences, promoting our commitment to environmental stewardship.
  • Live our safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the forestry industry, with a proven track record of success in woodlands management.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite.
  • Highly passionate and resilient individual, with a commitment to safety and sustainability.
