Position Summary

The Woodlands Director will report directly to the Global COO Pulp and will be tasked with overseeing and providing strategic direction for the harvesting, planning, and silviculture activities across AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve the Woodlands budget amidst a competitive wood market;
  • Ensure the delivery of premium and cost-efficient wood to our manufacturing facilities;
  • Maintain optimal wood inventories categorized by species and form in line with our safety stock policies;
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities for reducing wood costs while enhancing fiber yield and quality;
  • Negotiate wood supply contracts with market stakeholders and governmental entities;
  • Assess the implications of Woodlands department decisions on the overall financial performance of the company;
  • Foster collaborative business relationships both internally and externally;
  • Lead and inspire the Woodlands team and the broader AVG team;
  • Exhibit independence in managing operations and deliverables;
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of sustainable certifications such as FSC, PEFC, and SFI;
  • Act as a sustainability ambassador for AVG in various forums and conferences;
  • Embrace and promote a culture of safety within the field;
  • Lead a high-performing team, including direct reports and external contractors.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering;
  • MBA is a valuable asset;
  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices;
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office Suite;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Strong commercial acumen;
  • Solid financial management capabilities;
  • Highly motivated and passionate individual;
  • Resilient and adaptable to challenges.
