Job Summary

Role Overview

The successful candidate will report to the Global COO Pulp and be responsible for managing and providing leadership for the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver Woodlands Budget: Manage and deliver the woodlands budget in a challenging wood market, ensuring optimal financial performance.
  2. Supply High-Quality Wood: Deliver high-quality and cost-effective wood to our two NB Mills located in Nackawic and Atholville, meeting the company's quality and quantity requirements.
  3. Inventory Management: Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form according to our safety stocks policy, ensuring optimal inventory levels and minimizing waste.
  4. Cost Reduction and Quality Improvement: Work closely with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities for reducing wood costs and improving fiber yield and quality.
  5. Contract Negotiation: Negotiate wood contracts for price and volume with market participants and the government, ensuring optimal terms and conditions for the company.
  6. Financial Acumen: Understand the impact of woodlands department decisions on the company's P&L, making informed decisions to drive business growth.
  7. Collaboration and Leadership: Effectively build collaborative business networks within and outside AV Group, providing leadership to the Woodlands team and the company as a whole.
  8. Safety Culture: Live our safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
  9. Team Leadership: Lead a high-performing team of individuals directly and external contractors, driving business results and growth.

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.
  2. Desirable Qualification: MBA considered a plus.
  3. Technical Skills: Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite.
  4. Commercial Skills: Strong commercial skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed business decisions.
