About the Role

The Woodlands Director will be responsible for leading the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands. This role will report to the Global COO Pulp and will be a key member of the AV Group NB Inc. team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver Woodlands Budget: The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the Woodlands budget in a challenging wood market.
  2. Wood Supply Management: Deliver high-quality and cost-effective wood to AV Group's two NB Mills located in Nackawic and Atholville.
  3. Inventory Management: Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form according to AV Group's safety stocks policy.
  4. Cost Reduction and Quality Improvement: Work closely with Unit Heads and Central Operations to find ways to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality.
  5. Contract Negotiation: Negotiate wood contracts for price and volume with market participants and the government alike under the terms of AV Group.
  6. Financial Acumen: Understand the impact of the Woodlands department decisions and how they impact the company's P&L.
  7. Leadership and Collaboration: Effectively build collaborative business networks within and outside AV Group.
  8. Team Leadership: Provide leadership to the Woodlands team and the AV Group team as such.
  9. Autonomy and Decision-Making: Demonstrate autonomy in leading operations and deliverables.
  10. Sustainability Expertise: Excellent command of all relevant sustainable certifications and credentials such as FSC, PEFC, SFI, etc.
  11. Sustainability Ambassador: Be a sustainable ambassador for AV Group in New Brunswick, Canada, and abroad. Represent the company as required in sustainability forums and conferences.
  12. Safety Culture: Live our safety culture and be a safety ambassador in the field.

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.
  2. Advanced Degree: MBA considered a plus.
  3. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry.
  4. Commitment to Safety: A proven commitment to safety.
  5. Technical Skills: Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite.
  6. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and spoken communication skills.
  7. Commercial Skills: Strong commercial skills.
  8. Financial Skills: Excellent financial skills.
  9. Passion and Resilience: Highly passionate individual with high levels of resilience.
