Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations on AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands. This role requires a strong leader who can manage and provide guidance to the Woodlands team and external contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive woodlands budget that meets the company's goals and objectives;
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective wood to AV Group's two NB Mills;
  • Maintain healthy wood inventories by species and form, adhering to the company's safety stocks policy;
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities to reduce wood costs and improve fiber yield and quality;
  • Negotiate wood contracts with market participants and the government under the terms of AV Group;
  • Understand the financial impact of Woodlands department decisions on the company's P&L;
  • Build and maintain collaborative business networks within and outside AV Group;
  • Provide leadership to the Woodlands team and the company as a whole;
  • Demonstrate autonomy in leading operations and deliverables;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant sustainable certifications and credentials, such as FSC, PEFC, and SFI;
  • Represent AV Group in sustainability forums and conferences, promoting the company's commitment to sustainability;
  • Live the company's safety culture and serve as a safety ambassador in the field;
  • Lead a high-performing team of individuals and external contractors.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering;
  • MBA considered a plus;
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry;
  • A proven commitment to safety;
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong commercial and financial skills;
  • High levels of resilience and passion for sustainable forestry practices.
