Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified individual for the role of Woodlands Director. This position reports directly to the Global COO Pulp and entails overseeing and providing strategic direction for the harvesting, planning, and silviculture operations across AV Group's Crown Timber Licenses and Freehold Lands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve the Woodlands budget amidst a competitive wood market.
  • Ensure the delivery of premium quality and cost-efficient wood to our mills.
  • Maintain optimal wood inventories by species and form in line with our safety stock policies.
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads and Central Operations to identify opportunities for reducing wood costs while enhancing fiber yield and quality.
  • Negotiate wood contracts regarding pricing and volume with market participants and governmental entities.
  • Analyze the implications of Woodlands department decisions on the company's profit and loss.
  • Foster collaborative business networks both internally and externally.
  • Lead and inspire the Woodlands team and the broader AVG team.
  • Exhibit autonomy in managing operations and deliverables.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of sustainable certifications such as FSC, PEFC, and SFI.
  • Act as a sustainability ambassador for AVG, representing the company at relevant forums and conferences.
  • Promote a culture of safety and serve as a safety ambassador in operational settings.
  • Lead a high-performing team of direct reports and external contractors.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Forestry Engineering.
  • An MBA is considered advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial management capabilities.
