Job Summary

The University of Guelph is seeking a Hospital Assistant to join our team at the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide support in various areas, including infection control, client services, inventory control, and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect instruments, rooms, and surgical areas, and wash, dry, fold, and put away in-house laundry.
  • Sort waste into specific streams, clean rooms and areas after procedures, and update files, WHIMIS binder, and stocking lists as required.
  • Monitor after-hours client service functions, including billing, answering call centre requests, and contacting clinicians when necessary.
  • Monitor inventory throughout the hospital, ensure trollies and carts are stocked, and maintain supply quotas for surgical/medical supplies and equipment.
  • Relocate dirty laundry and deliver biohazard waste to the storage shed in a timely manner.
  • May assist with patient care, including restraining animals for procedures, using proper technique to protect employees and animals.

Requirements

  • Secondary School Diploma plus some related experience.
  • Animal Care Attendant, 1 yr. College Certificate Course preferred.
  • Working knowledge of common computer software, including Hospital Management Information System software, preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.

Working Conditions

Candidates must be physically able to conduct the diverse range of motions required to perform the core duties of the position. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the incumbent will work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $19.63 - $21.95 per hour.
