Job Summary:

Rackspace Technology is seeking a highly skilled Observability Engineer with expertise in OpenTelemetry to join our team. As a key member of our cloud engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing observability and monitoring solutions on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging OpenTelemetry frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement observability and monitoring solutions on GCP, utilizing OpenTelemetry frameworks to ensure high availability and performance of applications and services.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate observability tools and practices into the development lifecycle, ensuring seamless monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and troubleshooting of complex system issues using observability tools, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Develop custom instrumentation, metrics, and logs to enhance monitoring capabilities, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in GCP observability and OpenTelemetry.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and technical requirements.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in GCP, observability, or a related field.
  • Google Associate Cloud Engineer Certification or other Google Cloud Professional level certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing OpenTelemetry solutions.
  • Experience in cloud-based monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Technical degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terraform experience.
  • Kubernetes and GKE experience.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based architectures, particularly within the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in scripting and automation for integrating observability tools in cloud environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in a cloud context.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues using monitoring and observability tools.
