Job Summary:

Rackspace Technology is seeking a highly skilled Observability Engineer with expertise in OpenTelemetry to join our team. As an Observability Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing observability and monitoring solutions on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging OpenTelemetry frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement observability and monitoring solutions on GCP, utilizing OpenTelemetry frameworks to ensure high availability and performance of applications and services.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate observability tools and practices into the development lifecycle, ensuring seamless monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and troubleshooting of complex system issues using observability tools, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Develop custom instrumentation, metrics, and logs to enhance monitoring capabilities, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in GCP observability and OpenTelemetry.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure observability and monitoring solutions meet business requirements and are aligned with company goals.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in GCP, observability, or a related field.
  • Google Associate Cloud Engineer Certification or other Google Cloud Professional level certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing OpenTelemetry solutions.
  • Experience in cloud-based monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Technical degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terraform experience.
  • Kubernetes and GKE experience.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based architectures, particularly within the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience in scripting and automation for integrating observability tools in cloud environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in a cloud context.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues using monitoring and observability tools.
