Valard Construction LP is seeking to appoint a Project Accountant – Major Projects. This role will report directly to the Project Controller and is based in our Edmonton office.

As a Project Accountant - Major Projects, you will play a vital role in the success of significant projects by supporting operational functions. The primary duty of the Project Accountant - Major Projects is to deliver accounting services and manage operational cost control for designated projects. Your involvement will span the entire project life-cycle cost management of major projects, including but not limited to:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate and implement the initiation of new projects.
  • Oversee account-related operations.
  • Prepare client invoices and monitor billing activities.
  • Track and manage project budgets.
  • Identify and rectify cost coding errors.
  • Administer and verify contracts with subcontractors.
  • Handle and process accruals for project expenditures.
  • Document financial transactions through journal entries.
  • Reconcile project expenses to ensure precision.
  • Assist in processing change orders.
  • Gather and organize information for both internal and external audits.
  • Support the Project Controller in reviewing and finalizing project costs on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Contribute to the analysis of project profitability and performance metrics.
  • Engage in financial forecasting tasks.
  • Participate in special projects and utilize Excel for ad hoc analyses.
  • Provide assistance and oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as required.
  • Manage the project closeout process for completed initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with established systems and processes.
  • Coordinate and lead month-end cost accrual meetings with project managers, buyers, and receivers to collect and input cost accrual data.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • A background in construction is preferred and considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or SAP is advantageous.
  • A background in cost control or project control is also beneficial.

  • Excellent understanding of accrual-based accounting principles.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential.
