Position Summary

Valard Construction LP is seeking a Project Accountant – Major Projects. This role reports directly to the Project Controller and is situated in our Edmonton office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and implement the initiation of new projects.
  • Handle all account-related tasks efficiently.
  • Prepare and manage client invoices while tracking billing details.
  • Monitor and maintain project budgets diligently.
  • Identify and rectify discrepancies in cost coding.
  • Administer and verify contracts with subcontractors.
  • Process and manage accruals for project expenditures.
  • Document financial transactions through journal entries accurately.
  • Reconcile project costs to ensure precision.
  • Assist in processing change orders as required.
  • Gather and organize information for both internal and external audits.
  • Support the Project Controller in reviewing and closing project costs on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Analyze project profitability and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting efforts.
  • Engage in special projects and utilize Excel for various analyses.
  • Provide assistance and oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as necessary.
  • Manage the project closeout process effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with established systems and processes.
  • Facilitate month-end cost accrual meetings with project managers, buyers, and receivers to collect and input cost accrual data.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.
  • Familiarity with JD Edwards or SAP is advantageous.
  • A background in cost control or project control is also beneficial.
