Job Summary

The Project Manager - Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for leading major technical or business process projects, ensuring cost, schedule, scope, and deliverable requirements are met. This role will plan, lead, monitor, and coordinate activities related to system implementations and upgrades, as well as business process projects. The Project Manager will interface and communicate progress of projects, providing a single point of accountability for all phases of assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define projects, identifying expected outcomes, establishing and tracking timelines, and managing reports detailing project status and communicating updates to project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project team efforts to define and manage scope, develop roadmaps, prioritize and deliver objectives and features, ensuring identification and coordination of dependencies among interrelated efforts.
  • Coordinate efforts of technology and other vendors, holding them accountable for delivery of contractual commitments.
  • Monitor and manage project budget, advising management of project status and any significant trends and changes in the investment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, rules, laws, and government regulations within the project scope.
  • Provide articulate and accurate reporting to project stakeholders, creating presentations appropriate for the audience.
  • Negotiate business and IT resources for project allocation.
  • Facilitate problem-solving and decision-making meetings to discuss issues and implementation strategies and solicit alternative points of view.
  • May manage projects and programs that cross multiple departments/regions throughout the company.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate issues and risks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of project management experience with strong planning expertise.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Experience in strategic planning, risk management, and/or change management.
  • Experience in the Mining or Energy-related industry is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management training and certification (e.g., PMI, certified Agile practitioner).

  • Solid understanding and planning skills in all aspects of the system's/business project life cycle, i.e., enhancements, user requirements, application configuration, and usage of project planning tools.
  • Ability to manage resources both directly and via matrix management.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work.
  • May include up to 25% travel.

Physical Demands

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Requires constant data input for extended periods without leaving the work area.
  • Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
