Overview

Our Functional Services Teams (FSTs) encompass diverse fields including Corporate Development, Finance, HR, HSSE, IT, Legal, Marketing/Communications, Practice Services, and Real Estate and Procurement. By combining a wealth of expertise and backgrounds, our FSTs play a crucial role in enhancing our organizational strength.
Your Role
The Major Projects Legal Counsel position focuses on alternative project delivery (APD) methods, including design-build, progressive design-build, P3, Alliance, and Integrated Project Delivery projects. This role is integral to Stantec's Commercial Risk Governance group.
The Major Projects Legal Counsel will collaborate closely with Project teams and provide support to the Director of Commercial Risk Governance. This position is ideal for legal professionals with a strong grasp of business and commercial principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the examination, drafting, and negotiation of contracts and related legal documents.
- Assist Project teams in the daily management and execution of Projects, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
- Contribute to the creation and assessment of formal Project documentation, including notices and responses to claims and disputes.
- Support the Director of Commercial Risk Governance in the evaluation and development of resources, templates, and reference materials.
- Foster and enhance relationships with Project teams by gaining a comprehensive understanding of Stantec's operations and proactively improving risk management strategies for Projects.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Possession of a Juris Doctorate or equivalent qualification, with admission to the bar in the United States or Canada.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- Significant experience in APD is required.
