Job Summary

Valard Group of Companies is seeking a highly skilled Project Accountant - Major Projects to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for providing accounting functions and operational cost control for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute the setup of new projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Manage account-related activities, including generating client invoices and tracking billing information.
  • Maintain and monitor project budgets, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or variances.
  • Review and correct cost coding discrepancies, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Verify and administer contracts with subcontractors, ensuring accurate and timely payment.
  • Manage and process accruals for project costs, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Record financial transactions through journal entries, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Reconcile project costs to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide support for processing change orders, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Compile and organize information for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Project Controller in closing and reviewing project costs on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Support analysis of project profitability and performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Undertake special projects and utilize Excel for ad hoc analyses, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Provide support and oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.
  • Manage the closeout process for completed projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Ensure control and adherence to established systems and processes, maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • Construction background is desired and would be an asset.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel is a requirement.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or SAP is preferred.
  • Cost control/Project Control background also an asset.

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude with a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Capable of performing effectively under pressure, managing multiple tasks, and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Able to work cohesively in a team environment while also demonstrating independence and self-motivation.
  • Displays reliability, passion, and enthusiasm in approaching job responsibilities.
  • Maintains a high standard of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrates a strong and motivated work ethic, devoted to accomplishing objectives and producing high-quality results.
  • Excellent knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential.
