POSITION SUMMARY

The primary role of the Director of Business Development in Advisory Services is to ensure that BDC Advisory Services continues to deliver significant value to our clients and the Canadian economy. This position requires providing leadership to the Advisory Services sales team for designated clusters within a region, in partnership with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents of Financing and Consulting, as well as business centre managers and other BDC teams.

The Director will also oversee a team of Managers in Business Development for Advisory Services, helping them reach their full potential and evaluating their performance. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate actively to support the consulting-related business development efforts of account managers in their market. The Director is responsible for executing the go-to-market strategy in alignment with the corporate vision, driving regional consulting revenue while working closely with the respective lead pillars to ensure a positive impact on our clients.

KEY CHALLENGES

  • Contribute to the development and lead the execution of the business development strategy to ensure successful delivery of consulting services and the achievement of collective goals within the market.
  • Manage the sales team, ensuring efficiency and productivity. Encourage referral initiatives between Financing and Consulting, and ensure effective opportunity management.
  • Support Managers in Business Development for Advisory Services to independently sell standard mandates provided by the pillars: offer coaching and identify developmental activities during the diagnostic process. Recognize opportunities and assess needs related to customized mandates in collaboration with pillars.
  • Regularly liaise with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents of Financing and Consulting, as well as business centre managers, to ensure proper allocation and localization of market-facing (sales) resources.
  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents of Financing and Consulting, fostering relationships with internal stakeholders to maintain effective communication channels, implement initiatives, and achieve objectives.
  • Establish and monitor an effective management framework (practices, meetings, and reporting) to ensure alignment and performance of the Sales team and business development strategies in the market.
  • Share best practices with colleagues.
  • Ensure efficiency and economies of scale by utilizing BDC Advisory Services' Shared Services and adhering to standardized methodologies.
  • Develop partnerships (public and private) to enhance the acceptance of consulting services among Canadian SMEs and stay informed about emerging trends relevant to BDC.
  • Share responsibility and accountability for revenues from the BDC Advisory Services portfolio for their respective geographic markets, including customer satisfaction and employee engagement.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and adaptability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, finance, or business administration.
  • Over 10 years of experience managing a business development team, preferably within a management consulting environment.
  • Experience in banking or financial services is preferred.
  • Expertise in client management and project management.
  • Proven experience leading a professional business development team.
  • Ability to assess business needs and provide sustainable long-term solutions.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, promoting open dialogue and communication.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Corporate mindset with strong business acumen.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, agility, and adaptability.
  • Effective people management skills.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and engage in outreach, promotion, and business development activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is required.
