Position Overview:

The Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the effectiveness of food safety initiatives at our facility. This position is essential for conducting task evaluations, verification processes, and monitoring activities, alongside comprehensive program reviews and auditing functions. The FSQA Supervisor will actively lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams during audit processes and the formulation of corrective action strategies for any regulatory or internal compliance discrepancies.

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of FSQA Technicians, ensuring that tasks are executed consistently and efficiently to meet operational needs.
  • Implement and oversee Quality and Food Safety programs and protocols.
  • Forecast QA staffing requirements based on production demands.
  • Conduct training sessions, both individually and in groups, covering equipment usage, food safety, WHMIS, and SDS.
  • Engage in the development, updating, and implementation of cross-functional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide updates and maintenance for HACCP and MLF Food Safety and Quality Programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare for third-party audits and coach cross-functional managers throughout the audit process.
  • Assist in follow-up investigations and implement corrective actions based on identified deviations or customer complaints.
  • Support the environmental monitoring program for relevant equipment and facility areas, ensuring data is accurately recorded in the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS).
  • Analyze sanitation and environmental data to identify root causes of deficiencies and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Conduct audits and report non-compliance, taking necessary corrective actions to uphold food safety and quality assurance standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee training across all levels.
  • Offer technical guidance to Manufacturing Operations regarding product quality, food safety, and best manufacturing practices.
  • Plan and communicate effectively regarding Quality Assurance and Food Safety activities across various programs, including Sanitation and Health and Safety.
  • Encourage a constructive work environment through strong interpersonal skills and open communication.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Sanitation teams to support the company's Food Safety programs.
  • Promote adherence to health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Flexibility to support various shifts and departments as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education, preferably a B.Sc. in Chemistry or Microbiology.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in FSQA within a food manufacturing context, ideally in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of food chemistry, microbiology, allergen controls, auditing processes, GFSI/BRC standards, and HACCP principles.
  • Proven ability to independently manage and develop a team.
  • Strong capability to build partnerships across multiple functional areas to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Familiarity with industry-related quality systems and inspection protocols.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
