Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist

Farm Boy Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality in our production facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Food Safety and Quality Assurance: Monitor and verify food safety and quality standards in our production facilities, ensuring compliance with established processes and procedures.
- Quality Control: Conduct daily quality control checks, identifying and addressing any deviations from established standards.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Collect, review, and sign off on documentation related to food safety and quality assurance.
- Training and Development: Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety and quality management systems, as well as provide training to employees on written programs.
- Sensory Evaluations: Prepare sensory samples and participate in sensory evaluations to ensure product quality.
- Data Analysis: Perform data entry and data analysis tasks to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Shelf-Life Validation and Microbiological Analysis: Conduct shelf-life validation studies and microbiological environmental analysis as required.
- Project Participation: Participate in projects and meetings aimed at improving food safety and quality.
- QA Policy and Procedure Compliance: Ensure all QA policies and procedures are followed, and changes are reported as required.
- Lab Equipment Maintenance: Properly clean and maintain lab equipment.
- Audit Support: Assist with the facilitation of government and third-party audits, and required follow-up actions until non-conformances are resolved.
- Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Quality Assurance, Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Experience: 1-3 years' experience working with written food safety and quality programs in a food manufacturing plant.
- Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge and working experience with HACCP, GFSI, food legislation, Quality Assurance programs, including process controls, training, and supplier management, in a food production environment.
- Communication and Teamwork: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate requirements and tasks to employees. Ability to work independently and effectively with a team.
- Lab Management and Testing: Thorough understanding of lab management requirements and ability to perform lab tests independently as per standard methodology or plant SOPs.
- Initiative and Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to initiate program improvements, including writing SOPs, training employees on new and existing programs, and managing continuous improvement.
- Time Management and Prioritization: Ability to identify priorities, create sustainable and credible plans, and achieve goals through the efforts of working with a team.
- Customer Service Focus: Strong customer-service focus and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours and within the plant environment as business needs dictate.
- Physical Demands: May be required to lift, carry, and/or handle heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work Environment: Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
- Physical Requirements: Required to stand, walk, sit, and reach, and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Environmental Factors: Exposure to environmental elements such as noise, dirt, dust, vibration, and changing temperatures.
- Temperature Requirements: Ability to work in a cool environment for prolonged periods (4 to 6 degrees Celsius).
