About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Services within the Mental Health and Addictions division, the Social Worker will engage with children and adolescents up to the age of 19, delivering comprehensive assessments and therapeutic interventions for those experiencing mental health or concurrent disorders. This service operates as a collaborative multi-disciplinary team, which includes professionals from psychology, social work, psychiatry, addiction therapy, and behavioral intervention. Services are provided in various settings, including outpatient clinics, educational institutions, and community outreach programs. The Social Worker will be responsible for individual, family, and group therapy sessions, and may also oversee case managers and behavioral interventionists. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member, adaptable to the diverse needs of clients and the service. They will also be tasked with developing and delivering evidence-based educational sessions for clients, families, and colleagues on mental health topics. Participation in grand rounds presentations is a requirement of this position. Flexibility in scheduling, including evening and daytime hours, as well as travel, is necessary.

Candidate Profile

We encourage applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work with a focus on clinical or mental health practice (or a Master's degree from an accredited institution with substantial coursework in mental health disorders and treatment).
  • Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient mental health environments, demonstrating independent assessment and treatment capabilities for adult mental health disorders.
  • Proficiency in assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group), and research methodologies.
  • Specialized knowledge regarding acute and chronic mental illnesses and concurrent disorders.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and risk assessment techniques.
  • Proven ability to conduct mental health assessments, diagnoses, and evidence-based treatments in accordance with the DSM-5.
  • Understanding of psychotropic medications and their applications.
  • Insight into substance use, abuse, and dependency issues.
  • Awareness of professional standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to connect clients with community resources effectively.
  • Strong client-centered approach and the capacity to foster solid relationships with clients.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and innovative practices.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, ethical practices, and organizational well-being.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is an asset, with a preference for French.

Work Schedule
  • Permanent Full-Time Position; 75 hours biweekly.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage ranges from $37.31 to $49.05.
