About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Services, Mental Health and Addictions, this role involves working with children and adolescents up to 19 years old. You will provide assessments and treatment for those experiencing mental health or concurrent disorders.
Child and Adolescent Services is a multi-disciplinary team (including psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, addiction therapists, and behavioral interventionists) that delivers services in various settings: the main outpatient clinic, schools, and satellite clinics. Services encompass individual, family-based, or group therapy.
Your responsibilities may also include supervising case managers and behavioral interventionists. The ideal candidate is a team player who demonstrates flexibility to best meet client needs. You will have the opportunity to create and deliver evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and colleagues on topics related to mental health and concurrent disorders. Grand rounds presentations are a requirement of this position.
Evening and daytime hours, as well as travel, are required.
About You
We encourage applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:
- Master of Social Work with a specialization in a clinical or mental health stream (if not available, a Master's Degree in Social Work from an acceptable educational institution that demonstrates a significant portion of coursework focused on mental health disorders and treatment)
- Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work
- Two years of clinical experience in an inpatient/outpatient mental health setting, providing independent assessment and treatment of adult mental health disorders
- Competence in assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group), and research
- Specialized knowledge of acute and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders
- Knowledge and competence in evidence-based interventions such as CBT, and risk assessment
- Evidence of knowledge and ability to complete mental health assessments, diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment using the DSM-5
- Working knowledge of psychotropic pharmacology
- Understanding of substance use, abuse, and dependency
- Knowledge of standards that guide the profession
- Knowledge of and ability to link to community resources
- Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships
- Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices, and organizational health
- Competencies in other languages are an asset; French preferred
Hours
- Permanent Full-Time Position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Incentives
$37.31 - $49.05 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
