Reporting to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Services within the Mental Health and Addictions sector, the Social Worker is responsible for delivering assessment and therapeutic interventions to children and adolescents up to the age of 19 who are experiencing mental health challenges or concurrent disorders. This service operates as a collaborative team, incorporating various disciplines such as psychology, social work, psychiatry, addiction therapy, and behavioral intervention. Services are provided in multiple settings, including outpatient clinics, educational institutions, and community-based locations. Interventions may encompass individual, family, or group therapy formats.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Social Worker will also oversee case managers and behavioral interventionists, ensuring a cohesive approach to client care. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member, adaptable to the diverse needs of clients and the service. Responsibilities include:
- Developing and delivering evidence-based educational presentations on mental health topics to clients, families, and professional peers.
- Conducting grand rounds presentations as part of the role.
- Flexibility to work evening and daytime hours, including travel as required.
We encourage applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Social Work with a focus on clinical or mental health practice (or an equivalent degree with significant coursework in mental health).
- Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience in a mental health setting, with the ability to provide independent assessments and treatments for adult mental health disorders.
- Proficiency in assessment and intervention techniques, including individual, family, and group modalities.
- Specialized knowledge in acute and chronic mental illnesses and concurrent disorders.
- Familiarity with evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and risk assessment methodologies.
- Competence in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment using the DSM-5 framework.
- Understanding of psychotropic medications and their applications.
- Insight into substance use, abuse, and dependency issues.
- Knowledge of professional standards and community resource linkage.
- Strong client-centered approach with the ability to establish effective practitioner-client relationships.
- Dedication to continuous professional development and innovative practices.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, ethical standards, and organizational wellness.
- Proficiency in additional languages is an asset, with French being preferred.

Work Schedule- Permanent Full-Time Position; 75 hours biweekly.
The hourly wage ranges from $37.31 to $49.05. Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
