We are in search of a seasoned legal professional with a minimum of ten (10) years of expertise, outstanding leadership capabilities, and a robust foundation in criminal law to join our ranks as the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Homicide Bureau.

The Homicide Bureau consists of proficient prosecutors responsible for managing a significant volume of homicide cases in one of the nation's most active jurisdictions.

In this critical role, the Deputy Bureau Chief will be instrumental in responding to crime scenes, precincts, and various locations at all hours to assist law enforcement agencies in their inquiries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the preparation of legal documents to support arrests.
  • Providing strategic advice on charging decisions.
  • Collaborating closely with attorneys and law enforcement throughout the investigative process.
  • Acting as a primary liaison to the District Attorney for all cases managed by the Bureau.
  • Working in tandem with the Bureau Chief to ensure operational efficiency and effective resolution of legal and administrative matters.
  • Engaging with NYPD, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies at all levels.
  • Conducting training for attorneys and support staff on all aspects of homicide cases.
  • Interacting with community members and victims' families.
  • Authorizing plea offers and providing legal counsel.
  • Executing additional related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of Homicide Bureau statistics.

The position requires the ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as necessary. Strong interpersonal, organizational, planning, and communication skills are essential for building and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels within the Office. The ability to think innovatively and collaborate with personnel across various levels is also crucial.
