Executive Director, Policy and Planning

Academica Group seeks a visionary leader to provide strategic and operational direction to the Student Affairs team, fostering a holistic student experience, student rights and responsibilities, and student development and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Student Affairs team, developing strategic and operational plans, identifying initiatives, and managing implementation across the portfolio.
  • Act as an expert advisor on student matters, providing senior-level input into programs, initiatives, and policies related to student affairs.
  • Lead analysis and advice on policies and procedures regarding students and services, including risk management.
  • Remain current on diverse student needs, advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion as core aspects of supporting students.
  • Lead the university's response to student behavior and conduct issues, collaborating with Legal, Safety and Security, and others as required.
  • Provide oversight and direction related to student complaints, policy violations, and investigations.
  • Liaise with UFV teams, including legal, student health and wellness, threat assessment, and safety and security, when managing complex student conduct issues.
  • Address complaints and conduct investigations as required.
  • Liaise with local authorities regarding student conduct issues.
  • Administer and revise policies related to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, coaching and mentoring unit directors, associate directors, managers, and staff.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with departments, faculty members, senior administrators, staff, and external groups to strengthen the university's commitment to student development and success.
  • Hire, orient, and supervise team members, directing, scheduling, providing performance feedback, evaluating, and suggesting professional development.
  • Manage performance reviews, approve leaves, and administer sick leave and leave of absence requests.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Administration and Communications, to delegate work to the Operations Coordinators.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Policies, Projects, and Reporting, as related to responsibilities.
  • Engage HR as a collaborative partner in planning and managing the workforce.
  • Ensure the Department's budget is planned, prepared, and monitored in keeping with University objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Infuse Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, leading by example and promoting equity, inclusion, and respect in a diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrate respect for all members of the UFV community and proactively work to create an environment of inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Engage in learning and activities related to actioning Indigenization and understanding the impact of colonialism and the purpose of reconciliation.
UFV Leadership Proficiencies
  • Create and implement plans to meet student and community needs.
  • Lead change, remaining flexible and adjusting to changing circumstances.
