About the Role

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a visionary leader to fill the position of Director of Instruction - Curriculum. This role is responsible for overseeing the District's Curriculum Department and advancing the vision and mission of the district.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervise and lead the Curriculum Department to ensure the development and implementation of high-quality educational programs.
  2. Define and implement long-term goals, strategies, and plans to enhance student learning and achievement.
  3. Oversee the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning and support school plans to ensure alignment with district goals.
  4. Provide leadership and direction on district-wide assessment practices, including tracking and communicating student learning.
  5. Supervise the development and implementation of instructional resources and programs to support student learning.
  6. Monitor and report on results achieved, with a focus on student learning and achievement.
Requirements
  1. A Master's degree in a relevant field.
  2. A member in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch.
  3. Successful leadership experience in the public school system, preferably at both the school and district levels.
  4. Deep understanding and experience with K-12 literacy, numeracy, inquiry, assessment, and competency-based learning pedagogies.
  5. Knowledge and recognition of Indigenous education and commitment to reconciliation practices.
  6. Experience leading a range of educational priorities.
  7. Ability to build an effective leadership team and create a positive adult learning environment.
  8. Systems sensibility, political awareness, and change management skills.
  9. Demonstrated ability to make complex and ethical decisions in service of students.
  10. Solid understanding of public education governance.
  11. Demonstration of BCSSA's Leadership Competencies and district leadership competencies, with particular attention to resilience, capacity-building, visionary leadership, decision-making, and learning leadership.
