Job Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving sales growth and executing strategic priorities within the Canadian organization. This role involves maintaining complex accounts, achieving sales plan objectives, and ensuring alignment across functional areas throughout the sales cycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify new business opportunities through contact with prospective clients and cross-selling new services to existing clients.
  • Stay up-to-date on market trends and competitive rate actions, communicating those trends to the product and management teams.
  • Develop and maintain a client lifecycle program for top clients, exercising proactive solution development.
  • Build a solid understanding of target customers and assigned account base, including contact information, commodities, trade lanes, and service requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of RFQs, bids, and understand pricing and cost components associated with proposed solutions.
  • Identify competitive service strengths and weaknesses, making recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide weekly and monthly performance metrics to the sales administrator.
  • Perform other duties, including sales presentations, developing deliverables, coordinating implementation, and creating marketing materials.
  • Enter new customer data and sales data into CRM and maintain this information per DSV company policy.
  • Meet specific volume and revenue requirements for each product in the portfolio as designated by the General Manager, Sales.
  • Manage time and sales territory to reach the desired number of sales calls, ensuring maximum exposure to the market.
  • Ensure effective and timely responses to all sales leads and key correspondence within identified timelines.
  • Manage expenses and other company assets in accordance with DSV corporate guidelines.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Education in supply chain logistics, international transportation, or a related field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of account management experience.
  • CIFFA certificate, an asset.

  • Good command of English skills, both verbal and written.

  • Understanding of business principles and language, including the fundamentals of finance and profitability.
  • Business administration competence.
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills.

Language and Computer Skills

English is the principal language for this position, with additional languages required in other locations. Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.

Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in Customer Relationship Management tools (CRM). CargoWise experience is an asset.

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer. Travel required. Regular working hours apply, with occasional working beyond these hours required by business needs.
