Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist (PT) associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads fitness classes to promote physical activity and well-being among clients.
  • Works collaboratively with the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist to develop and implement fitness programs that meet the needs of clients.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery processes to ensure high-quality care.
  • Attends educational in-services and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Provides fall prevention education and promotes healthy lifestyle choices among clients.
  • Reports any incidents or concerns to the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist.
  • Ensures compliance with legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.

External and Internal Relationships:

  • Frequent interaction with Program coordinators, Physiotherapists, and clients to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • High school graduate with a focus on health and wellness.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent is required at the time of hire or within 3 months from time of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity and education.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment, such as recreation therapy, is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

Other:

  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move equipment as needed.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues.
