Position Overview

Reporting directly to the VP of Construction, the Project Director is responsible for supervising and guiding all assigned Project Managers and overseeing the various phases of awarded projects. This includes everything from drafting and design to production, delivery, and installation. The Project Director plays a crucial role in ensuring that projects adhere to established schedules, timelines, and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering; and
  • Project Management Professional Certification or equivalent experience.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 5+ years in a leadership capacity managing technical teams within the construction sector.

Work Environment

  • The on-site work environment may involve exposure to hazards or physical risks, necessitating knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols;
  • Required to wear construction safety footwear and hard hats on-site and in other locations;
  • Office settings may require travel to visit sites, clients, or suppliers;
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Field Coordinators;
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and accountability;
  • Collaborate with other Project Directors to address process issues and enhance operational efficiency;
  • Partner with Engineering to resolve technical challenges;
  • Work alongside the Project Management Team to develop project timelines and maintain client communication;
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, resource planning, and provide updates on a weekly/monthly basis;
  • Represent the company in interactions with customers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers;
  • Prepare and review all project Change Orders and ensure timely submission to clients;
  • Collaborate closely with Field Directors and site staff to address outstanding issues;
  • Attend scheduled meetings with consultants, coordination teams, and site personnel;
  • Draft letters, memos, meeting minutes, and emails as necessary;
  • Participate in the hiring process for the department;
  • Maintain daily communication with colleagues via phone, email, and in-person interactions;
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in handling confidential information;
  • Uphold the company's core values and work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently without supervision.

Specific Duties

  • Establish and maintain the Project Management Team Structure;
  • Monitor and control the Project Management Team to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and quality project delivery;
  • Hold Project Teams accountable for their contributions and communicate departmental goals;
  • Develop project-specific goals, work plans, timelines, and strategies for the Project Management Department;
  • Ensure that monthly project reports are generated and distributed by all Project Managers;
  • Assist Project Managers in creating project schedules that outline key timeline dates, including shop drawing submissions, material take-offs, procurement, production, and installation;
  • Ensure consistent communication of project start dates and any changes to Operations;
  • Facilitate cross-functional reviews of Shop Drawings to meet client specifications and streamline manufacturing and installation processes;
  • Review project scopes, specifications, and tender documents to identify discrepancies and prepare start-up checklists;
  • Review and provide feedback on subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and contract progress draws as needed;
  • Evaluate project Progress Draws on a monthly basis;
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Director to ensure that all necessary materials align with project timelines;
  • Initiate and lead meetings with Project Managers, production, and field teams to identify and resolve issues affecting project progress;
  • Establish and maintain protocols and processes for all departmental work;
  • Conduct site visits as required;
  • Organize departmental and client meetings to achieve project objectives and deadlines;
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the VP of Construction.
