**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the supervision of the School Administrator and working closely with the Graduate Supervisor and the Undergraduate Supervisor and Indigenous Studies Program Coordinator of the Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies programs, the Program Administrator is responsible for the administrative operation of all aspects of the undergraduate and graduate academic programs in the School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies (SICS) from recruitment through to graduation. Additionally, the incumbent contributes to the Faculty’s response to the Kinàmàgawin Report, assisting with outreach events and other Indigenous-focused activities within the School and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The Program Administrator in the School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies responds to course and program-related questions and concerns of faculty, contract instructors, teaching assistants, students and the general public and will consult with the Undergraduate Supervisor, Indigenous Studies Program Coordinator, Graduate Supervisor, the School Administrator, and/or the Director of SICS as appropriate.

The Program Administrator provides various general administrative and academic support to the School, including mail distribution and assistance with the coordination of internal departmental services. In addition, the incumbent participates in developing, planning and organizing activities designed to increase enrolment and retention in the unit’s Undergraduate and Graduate programs.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Detailed knowledge of barriers facing Indigenous peoples in participating in education and employment, including potential cultural alienation, rural versus urban transitions, the role of the family, and other issues
- Recognition and respect for the diversity of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples’ experiences, expectations and aspirations through in-depth knowledge of Indigenous history, cultures, worldviews, concepts and issues
- Experience planning and coordinating meetings and events with an awareness and respect of the cultural considerations for Indigenous events
- Able to work with a high degree of accuracy and speed, with the ability to establish priorities and to define and resolve problems.
- Remain current with the University's organizational structure and the School and University policies and regulations and must keep current on changes in procedures within the School and the University.
- Advanced skills are required in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams), as well as in Carleton University-specific software and data management systems, including Banner and e-Shop, with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing electronic environment
- Tact and diplomacy and must possess strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with people.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- University degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Minimum four years of related administrative experience in a university academic department with experience in the administration of undergraduate and graduate studies, admissions and student advising and relevant administrative experience in an Indigenous organization.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, committees and/or organizations with a proven record of delivering quality programs and services to Indigenous peoples would be considered a strong asset.
