**The Manitoba Ombudsman is seeking professional, energetic, responsive and forward-thinking individuals to join our team who are passionate about promoting access to information, privacy, access to justice and dedicated to helping Manitobans.**

The Ombudsman is an independent Officer of the Legislative Assembly with oversight responsibilities under _The Ombudsman Act_, _The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act_ (FIPPA), _The Personal Health Information Act _(PHIA), and _The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act_ (PIDA). The Ombudsman investigates complaints from the public, or on her own initiative, and reviews administrative decision-makings in support of principles of fairness, openness, and accountability; investigates complaints or, on her own initiative, investigates any decision, act or omission relating to a matter of administration by provincial government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, municipalities and other public bodies; makes public reports when deemed in the public interest; and provides informational and educational services to the public, public bodies, personal health information trustees, and the Legislative Assembly.

Qualifications:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Certificate or diploma in office administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience providing confidential administrative support including the preparation of correspondence.
- Experience communicating with the public by telephone and in person.
- Experience working with MS Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously.
- Excellent written communications skills.
- Ability to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment.

**Desired Criteria**:

- Knowledge/experience working with SharePoint, Maximizer and/or similar database system considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate in French

**Duties**:
Reporting to the Manager of Administration, the Administrative Support Clerk is responsible for providing overall reception, secretarial, administrative, and clerical support to the Winnipeg Ombudsman’s office. The incumbent will receive enquiries from the public relating to matters of administration and access and privacy. The Administrative Support Clerk is responsible for greeting all visitors and callers, identifying the nature of the complaint(s), explaining the role and function of the Office, assessing jurisdiction, explaining avenues of review or appeal, and makes appropriate referrals for non-jurisdictional concerns. The incumbent will also provide coverage for other members of the administration team.
