**Department/Faculty Summary**

Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior and explores phenomena such as cognition, behaviour, emotion, language, learning, memory, development, and brain-behaviour relations, among many others.

Psychology permeates all areas of our lives, and the ways in which it can be explored and applied are vast. Understanding psychology enables us to be open-minded and creative, and it provides opportunities for us to broaden our perspectives, challenge what we take for granted, and enrich our frameworks for understanding the world.

The Department of Psychology offers a diverse education to both undergraduate and graduate populations, offering over 100 courses each year covering foundational materials as well as current and emerging topics.

**Position Summary**

The graduate program advisor is the first point of contact for current or prospective graduate students, providing accurate delivery of information on academic program requirements, deadlines, and university/faculty policies and procedures.

**Duties**
- Serves as a primary contact for all prospective and current students on all graduate-program-related matters.
- Responsible for the graduate student awards process as led by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research or other units.
- Manages issues related to graduate students, their supervision and committees, and their programs.
- With the Academic Department Manager and Associate Chair (Graduate), establishes and monitors the graduate program budget and makes recommendations on graduate-research and graduate-teaching
- assistant assignments.
- Performs human resource activities as needed for all graduate-student appointments.
- Provides support to department graduate committees and maintains regular contact with central units such as the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Dean of Students, University of Alberta International, and others.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ related experience, particularly in a post-secondary environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated intercultural understanding are required.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures is preferred.
