**Department summary**

The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) is offered on campus, online and off campus as a cohort program. This program privileges Aboriginal knowledge systems and strives to create an environment where preservice teachers will further develop their understanding of Aboriginal knowledge systems, histories, cultures, worldviews, and perspectives. ATEP’s goal is to improve the educational experiences of Aboriginal children by increasing the number of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal teachers in preparation for employment in schools where Aboriginal children are learning.

**Position summary**

**Duties**
- Support the Associate Dean, Indigenous Teacher Education; Manager and ATEP Academic Advisor Team Lead to achieve ATEP’s goals and priorities, in collaboration with the ATEP team.
- Support the operations of admission processes and maintenance of accurate student records ensuring deadlines are met.
- Communicates with and advises continuing and prospective students on program related matters such as: advising on academic standing, providing GPA calculations and scenarios, advising on course and program requirements and changes, potential transfer credit and advanced program planning.
- Review the satisfying of degree requirements, academic standing, and the acceptability of exchange and/or transfer credit.
- Recognize and identify incidences, barriers and systemic issues that may inequitably inhibit Indigenous student access to the university and their academic success.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Participates in student recruitment activities.
- Contributes to a supportive and inclusive team environment that encourages open communication.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Twelve months of experience in student academic advising.
- Good understanding of the challenges for students transitioning to post-secondary education, and experience working with Indigenous students.
- A good understanding and /or lived Indigenous experience.
