Day Programming Coordinator

**1. Summary**
Harbour Landing Village offers quality personalized assisted services to Independent Living residents on-site and seniors living at home in Regina and surrounding area. We help maintain and encourage independence to increase the quality of life, with care and kindness. With our experienced multidisciplinary Assisted Services team, we deliver comprehensive and customized person-centered services to address our clients’ varying needs.
A unique offering of Assisted Services is the Assisted Day Program, an onsite program for seniors who are experiencing some cognitive decline or have a diagnosis of dementiawho still live at home but are looking for ways to stay active, engage with others, and make connections outside of their homes. As a Day Programming Coordinator, you will take lead in the planning, organization, and implementation of meaningful programs and activities for the clients of the Assisted Day Program. Our activities take a holistic approach which includes supporting cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual aspects. You will work directly with our clients to both spearhead daily activities and work with individuals on a one-on-one basis.
This position requires shift flexibility and an open mind. You will be required to accompany and participate in activities both at Harbour Landing Village, as well as out on excursions where you will assume responsibility for supervising the participants.
**2. Day Programming Responsibilities**
- Lead the planning, organization, and implementation of meaningful programs for the clients of the Assisted Day Program.
- Provide guidance to clients participating in the Day Program activities by leading, encouraging, demonstrating, assisting, and supervising the planned activities.
- Understand the portfolio of services and products of HLV Assisted Services to properly support clients with their questions and inquiries for add-ons to Day Program.
- Build and maintain the monthly programming calendar, daily activity sheets and monthly newsletter. Maintain client files and track attendance.
- Maintain open communication with our network of participants in the Day Program, including family updates if needed.
- Provide support to the Director of Assisted Services & Programming in product and service design, activity supply acquisition, and related administrative tasks.
- Assist in identifying and assessing the clients’ or residents’ needs to develop fulfilling activities from their introduction profiles and assessments to encourage more participation.
- Maintain charting notes to track daily progress and observances for clients participating in the Day Program.
- Manage the upkeep and maintenance of the Connect room and areas, ensuring professional presentation, cleanliness, and organization are maintained.
- Maintain confidentiality of client and company information and discuss only with appropriate personnel.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**3. Activities & Programming Responsibilities**
Collaborate with other Programming and Assisted Services Coordinators in the following areas:
- Assist in hosting socially and mentally stimulating daily activities including, but not limited to daily exercise classes, cognitive stimulating activities, monthly birthday celebrations, entertainment, outings, and special events.
- Provide guidance to residents by leading, encouraging, demonstrating, and assisting in planned activities when needed.
- Visiting with residents who tend to recluse and need that one-on-one attention.
- Assist in the set up and take down of special events our residents participate in.
- Assist in upkeep and maintenance of the Programming office and areas, ensuring professional presentation, cleanliness, and organization are maintained.
**4. Skills, Qualification, & Requirements**:
- Degree or Diploma in the Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or Kinesiology.
- 1-2 years of experience with activity planning is an asset.
- 1-2 years of experience in a retirement residence setting is an asset.
- Experience with persons with dementia is preferred.
- Certified Care Aide or Personal Support Worker Certificate is an asset.
- First Aid CPR Certificate
- Transfer, Lift, and Repositioning Certificate
- Food Safety Certificate
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Maintain employee and family confidentiality.
- Open availability and willingness to work a variety of shifts as needed, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
