Mazahr is a full dine-in, licensed Lebanese restaurant in the heart of Vancouver. We specialize in and serve authentic traditional Lebanese dishes with genuine hospitality. We are a popular neighborhood restaurant known for making fresh food, always using fresh ingredients to come up with flavorful dishes.
We are looking to add an independent Lebanese/Middle eastern pastry section by hiring a Pastry chef who can contribute to more richness in our menu.
Examples of Lebanese pastries: Baklava, Maamoul (middle eastern butter cookies), Kunafa, Baba Rom, Cheabiyat, fatayer, manakish, sfeeha, Ashta, Arabic ice-cream etc.
**Responsibilities**:
Include but not limited to:
- Operating and Managing the pastry section of the kitchen and liaising with the cooks for a successful working environment
- Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, desserts, and breads according to recipes and quality standards
- Ensure proper food handling and packaging to maintain freshness and quality
- Creating pastries, and baked goods, by following a set recipe.
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff to coordinate pastry production with overall menu offerings
- Responsible for pastry menu costs and pricing and ensuring a profitable business operation.
- Monitoring and maintaining the stock of baking ingredients and order supplies as needed.
- Ensuring their section of the kitchen adheres to safety and health regulations.
- Supervising and training staff members, when needed.
**Skills and Qualifications**
Include but not limited to:
- 5+ years of experience in commercial pastry making
- High level of creativity, and a portfolio to show your work.
- High management and organization skills
- Efficiency in communicating and facilitating work flow
- Strong knowledge of Lebanese pastry techniques and flavours
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently produce high-quality pastries
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a collaborative kitchen setting
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
**Salary**: $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 - 38 per week
