We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Assistant - Co-op Student to do a work placement at our corporate head office in Oakville. This role is responsible for coordinating various H&S specialty areas and providing support to the HR team.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in a 4, 8 or 12 month co-operative education program.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the coordination of all Health and Safety related initiatives (H&S Excellence program, Safety Bulletins)
  • Acting as a point of contact for all health and safety compliance websites & pre-qualifications
  • Assisting with conducting office inspections
  • Assisting with the drafting of company policies
  • Providing administrative support to HR team (i.e. updating training records, coordinating training initiatives)
  • Maintaining inventory of PPE supplies for all offices
  • Facilitating new employees health and safety orientation

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety - Co-op (4 year preferred)
  • Previous related co-op experience is an asset
  • Strong administrative skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Relationship-building skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Professionalism, tact and diplomacy
